Internet address


To establish communication between the computers in the Internet each of them will get a unique Internet address.

There are two ways how to address a certain computer. On the one hand each participating computer will have an IP-address such as 80.237.130.31 (this is the current IP-address of the computer hosting http://en.web-fortbildung). As this kind of naming is quite uncomfortable for humans most adresses which offer public services can be reached by their domain-name as an alias as well. Those aliases normally are made of readable words and can be remembered much easier then a sample of numbers. The alias address (e.g. "http://www.web-fortbildung") will lead to the same computer as the numeric IP-address.
