Bot
(abbrev. of "robot")


A bot is a computer program designed to simulate human behaviour. As this is a very difficult task each bot is limited to concentrate on one single aspect to simulate. So there are different kind of bots such as chat bots which try to do easy communication with humans, game bots which offer helping features in games or try to play games automatically and bid agents which place bids on online auctions following the needs of their owners.
Important for the Internet are crawlers (also known as "spiders") which are bots that automatically browse through the Internet and collect the data they will find there.
